Natural Hair Events are everywhere; in the US, UK and even parts of Europe (France & Belgium being the most popular) and chances are by now we all have our favourite ones. But what about those people who haven’t been to one before and are considering it? Or maybe you’ve been to one, come home and thought “Why was I there?” or “I didn’t plan to spend this much and I don’t even need this!!”. We’ve all been there unfortunately, and some of us keep going without really asking ourselves why or what. Everyone can benefit from a Natural Hair Event and we have a few tips that will make them more helpful for any attendee, whether natural or frequent goer.
Find an Objective!
When was the last time you went somewhere for a reason other than you were invited or had to work? There are loads of opportunities at Natural events/ expos to find that rare product, or fashion designer who you saw their materials on Facebook. Make this a primary objective, something you do before you begin wandering and items magically end up in your bag!
Go with a friend... or 3
The great thing about going with friends is that everyone knows someone who knows someone. It provides more room for you to mingle and learn from other great people in the industry. Whether you’re going natural, are natural or considering it; going with friends who are on the same journey with you who can support you is important.
Go to a workshop
Most, if not all, Natural events these days have workshops on many different topics. If you don’t know what you want, why you’re at the event or even if you’ve been dragged there, dropping in on a workshop could be the difference between finding your hair type or finding out industry news that effects you. Find a programme (if available), give it a quick scan and learn something new!
Find out who’s going to be there
Prior research into any topic will provide a sense of comfortability and for Natural Hair Events this is no different. Finding out your favourite natural hair magazine or make up brand will be attending can be the deciding factor between going and staying in bed. This is also a good way to find out if they’re doing any discounts/ giveaways on the day.
Make a list of burning questions
So blogs haven’t helped, vlogs haven’t helped and neither has an old fashioned Google search what do you do then? With all the workshops, natural companies and other naturals at these events someone is bound to have been in the same position as you. Take your favourite pad with you, jot down the question and see if there’s anyone that can take you to the next stage of your Natural Hair journey!
